Section 3/7: Is the Bible Reliable?

What Is the Bible?

Bible Salvation

Before considering whether or not the Bible is credible, let’s make sure we have a basic understanding of what it is and isn’t.

First, the Bible is not just one document, but a compilation of 66 books. It consists of various genres, such as poetry, letters and historical narrative, yet is unified as it weaves together a single theme, or story – despite being written over a 1500 year period by 40 authors! This may be why it is often thought of as one book.

The Bible contains two major sections, the Old and New Testament. The Old Testament, also called the Hebrew Bible, consists of 36 books and was assembled as the sacred texts of the Jewish people.
