The Execution of the Apostles

History records that every apostle, except John, was executed.

  • Peter watched his wife crucified, and was himself crucified upside down
  • Simon, Bartholomew, and Andrew were also crucified
  • Philip was impaled by hooks, and hung upside down
  • Thomas was speared to death
  • James, Matthew, and Thaddeus were stoned to death
  • James (John’s brother) and the apostle Paul were beheaded
  • They were willing to die for what they believed; many of them in excruciating pain. They also watched friends and loved ones suffer for their beliefs. People don’t subject themselves to painful death, or allow others to die, for something they know is false.
