Section 3/7: Is the Bible Reliable?

John & The Synoptics

Bible Bible: Historical Accuracy Bible: New Testament

John records many of the same events as the other gospels, but his choice of content and themes differ from the Synoptics. He writes in his own distinctive style—for example, he doesn’t include parables—and he places more focus on private conversations with Jesus, and on smaller more intimate details not mentioned by the others.

As with Luke, scholars attest to the veracity of John’s account by merit of specific details verified by historians and archeologists. Given the evidence, and congruence with the other accounts, it’s reasonable to conclude that John, too, can be trusted.
