Section 3/7: Is the Bible Reliable?

Skeptical of the Bible 2

Bible Skepticism

The Bible promotes ideas that some people find disagreeable – depending on where they live. For example, in the West, the concept of forgiveness, taught in the Bible, is considered admirable, but the Bible’s teachings on sexuality are not easily accepted. Conversely, in Eastern or traditional cultures, the opposite is true. The Bible’s call to forgive our enemies is counter-cultural and rejected, but limiting sex to marriage is an acceptable standard.

It’s impossible for any book that advocates moral standards to satisfy cultural norms around the world. What’s acceptable in one region might be reprehensible in another. Therefore, we can’t judge the Bible by this standard.
