Typically, we desire to trust our own competency and decency. If we are fairly accomplished, self-disciplined and self-reliant, it’s more difficult to trust outside of the ‘self’, because we believe our ‘self’ has served us pretty well. So, for those who are self-reliant, control and pride are typically the culprits holding us back from trust.
At the other end of the scale, if we have impulsive tendencies, memory struggles, or addictions, we may be very open to trust someone or something else since we already know we can’t trust ourselves. Consider where you are on the spectrum between these two extremes.
