English philosopher Anthony Flew (1923-2010), despite being the son of a Methodist minister/theologian, has been called the “world’s most notorious atheist." He spent almost his entire career vigorously and publicly arguing on behalf of atheism and even signed the Humanist Manifesto III, which proclaims belief in a universe completely devoid of God.
However, shockwaves emanated when Flew announced that "in keeping with his lifetime commitment to go where the evidence leads” he was making a complete about-face, stating that he did believe in the existence of God. He even went on to author the highly acclaimed There is a God, about which Ian Hutchinson (Head of Nuclear Science and Engineering at MIT) stated, “Anthony Flew’s book will incense atheists who suppose (erroneously) that science proves there is no God.”
