Darwin’s Fossil Challenge

Even Charles Darwin acknowledged the lack of fossils of "transitional intermediate" organisms, which is a weakness of his theory:

"Why, if species have descended from other species by fine gradations, do we not everywhere see innumerable transitional forms?"

Darwin’s concerns were well-founded. He expressed hope that transitional forms would be discovered in the future but acknowledged that if not, his theory of evolution would need to be abandoned.
