Section 2/7: Intro: Does God Exist?

Is Moral Law Relative to Individuals?

We may think that the intense moral disagreements in our society indicate that morality isn’t universal. But underlying these disagreements is a great deal of agreement about morality. For example, people on both sides of the abortion debate agree that the murder of innocent life is wrong (moral law). But they disagree on whether or not a fetus is constitutes a human, and the pro-choice side places greater emphasis on the values of the mother’s liberty to choose. These are issues related to how agreed-upon moral law is applied.

People may have differing perspectives, but they do agree that right and wrong exist, and that certain moral values ought to be upheld. Debates about morality wouldn’t be possible without this common ground.
