We might imagine that morality differs drastically between societies. But moral differences pale in comparison to the astonishing continuity between all times and places when it comes to what people view as good and evil.
C.S. Lewis points out that we can hardly imagine a place where moral standards are truly opposite of ours. He says, “Think of a country where people were admired for running away in battle, or where a man felt proud of double-crossing all the people who had been kindest to him.” We can’t think of such a country, because moral standards are largely the same for all people.
