A common rebuttal to the evidence for design is that the universe has to have properties that sustain life. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be here to discuss it. Or, to put it another way, “Of course the universe has life sustaining properties, you’re just going back and finding them after the fact.”
However, the fact that we're the ones witnessing life on earth doesn’t diminish the phenomenally low odds that any universe at all exists, let alone one which sustains life. We're fortunate enough to be around to witness these astronomically unlikely constants and physical quantities necessary to sustain life. But, whether or not we're here is irrelevant to the infinitesimally low odds that anything is here at all.
