Opponents of design often use a lottery to make their case. They say the odds of any particular person winning is extraordinarily high, but someone has to win (assuming ticket holders have all the numbers), and we just happen to be the lucky ticket holder.
This analogy breaks down because the universe isn't like a lottery. Whereas the lottery has to have a winner, the universe doesn’t. A universe that sustains life does not have to exist at all. But, despite the astonishingly improbable odds, we are here.
