The first step in God’s redemption of humanity was the Incarnation. In order to overcome our sin and suffering, Jesus first came near to us. He became what we are, taking on a human body and stepping into our sin and suffering Himself – along with us!
Peter Kreeft describes the beauty of this act of humility: “[Jesus] came. He entered space and time and suffering. He came, like a lover. Love seeks above all intimacy, presence, togetherness...He did the most important thing and he gave the most important gift: himself.”
Christianity’s ultimate answer to suffering is Jesus Himself—God with us.
