Enlightenment reasoning throws the existence and nature of God into question, but Pastor Tim Keller points out that it operates on a hidden premise. That premise is that if suffering seems pointless to us, it is pointless. Why do we assume this? Is it so obvious to us that if an infinitely wise, holy, and powerful God has reasons for allowing suffering, we must know them? Shouldn’t we expect that some of the things He does and allows are beyond our finite understanding?
