Section 5/7: What’s Wrong with Christianity

Women as Pastors and Church Leaders

Christianity History

Many Christian churches (Episcopal, United Methodist, Lutheran, American Baptist, Presbyterian (USA), the United Church of Christ, The Pentecostal Church of God, Assemblies of God, the Disciples of Christ, some non-denominational, etc.) welcome women to serve as pastors and church leaders (and many have done so for well over a century).

There are also denominations that have only men serve as pastors and in certain leadership roles. Their rationale is based on their understanding of Biblical

- not on a desire to oppress or devalue women.  The men in these churches are tasked to lead in love and grace, in the same way that Christ loved the church; this means being willing to lay down their lives for all in the church. Even though some Christian churches think that men and women have different roles in church leadership, they don't condone any ‘lording over’ of women.
