Some believe Christians to be naïve, anti-intellectual, anti-science, and emotionally-driven rather than educated and well-reasoned. This is simply a mischaracterization. Christians throughout history have advocated studying every imaginable topic as it draws people to gain a deeper understanding of and appreciation for God.
Because of Christians' value of knowledge and understanding, many prestigious schools (e.g. Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, Yale, William & Mary, Princeton, and Brown) have been founded by followers of Jesus. By the mid-nineteenth century, of the 246 colleges in America, almost 230 were founded by Christians, with the others being primarily state institutions.
The founders' understanding was that through his or her studies, one would come to know God through Jesus Christ.
