While it’s repugnant that one people group could think itself superior to another, this has happened throughout human history. It can be seen on school playgrounds and factory floors, and even in boardrooms. Our insecurity without an identity grounded in God causes us to want to be better than or in control of other people. But Jesus shows his followers otherwise. He teaches that pride is at the heart of sin.
Like all people, Christians are influenced by the culture in which they live. Part of the life of a follower of Jesus is recognizing and dismantling influences that are not of God. This is often easier said than done. Yet in every period of history there have been followers of Jesus who truly live in the way of Christ and help point the way for others to follow.
